Success Story: Know about Pallavi Vyas inspiring journey from organic dairy to moringa-based nutrition

Success Story: In Rajasthan, where her parents worked for the government, Pallavi Vyas was born and brought up in a grounded atmosphere. She was raised with strong morals and a desire to have a significant influence, despite coming from a hamlet. Pallavi, an MBA graduate, felt compelled to devote her time and skills to something more meaningful after marrying a professional and raising a family for a number of years.

The change did not happen right away. She was dissatisfied with her first agency-based job after entering the workforce. She subsequently opened a small floral business where she began growing flowers herself and creating unique bouquets since she loved the outdoors. She gained confidence from her mother-in-law’s encouragement, particularly when she volunteered to handle domestic duties so Pallavi could focus more on her job.

This period of support, however, was brief since her mother-in-law received a cancer diagnosis within a year. With small children and a family to support, Pallavi was once again faced with a difficult decision.

Origins of Shanta Farms

Shanta Farms was founded as a result of both vision and need. Under the name of her late mother-in-law, the family possessed a piece of property in Indore, and Pallavi made the decision to turn it into something worthwhile. She started working on organic vegetable exports to the US in 2013–14, long before organic farming was a popular term in India.

She started a dairy farm because she wanted to give back to the community. Her objective was unmistakable: to provide organic, unadulterated milk devoid of antibiotics and toxins. What began as a small operation with just six cows quickly expanded. Pallavi made an investment in state-of-the-art dairy equipment acquired from overseas and installed sensors to monitor the production and health of the cows.

She made sure that ethical and organic values underpinned every aspect of the dairy industry, from cow nutrition to milking methods. In Indore, Shanta Farms quickly introduced door-to-door milk delivery, delivering fresh milk free of adulteration straight to customers. They were providing daily services to more than 400 families in only three years.

Discovery of Moringa

Pallavi had difficulties in providing her cows with high-quality feed since she operated in Mewar, an area that often experiences drought. With little background in animal nutrition, local farmers have historically concentrated on crops like wheat, cotton, and soybeans.

She was determined to succeed, so she took specialist animal nutrition classes, including one in the Netherlands, a world leader in organic dairy production. She learned about moringa as a dietary supplement for cows at one of these classes. She saw a notable improvement in the general health of the cows as well as a notable rise in milk output after adding it to their diet. The cost of medication decreased, while the health of the cows increased.

She started growing moringa on her own land after realizing its full potential. This little change would quickly become a key component of her business success.

Impact Scaling with Nutrition Supported by Science

Pallavi recognized a fresh opportunity in 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred; anything that had benefited animal health might undoubtedly benefit people as well. During the pandemic, she started experimenting with moringa powder for human use, particularly as a natural immune enhancer.

Shanta Farms started giving out supplements made from moringa to ladies, cancer sufferers, and those with long-term medical conditions. This project attracted a lot of attention and set the stage for future advancements.

“Morvita,” a health drink made from moringa, was one of her historic accomplishments. Morvita was given via Anganwadi centers in Ujjain and other Madhya Pradesh districts after receiving approval from the State Food Department. The substance was crucial in combating anemia in mothers and malnutrition in children. So far, the program has helped feed more than 60,000 children and helped 10,000 moms become anemia-free.

A Brand Transitioning from Dairy to Holistic Nutrition

These days, Shanta Farms has expanded into a variety of moringa-based goods, such as dairy products like ghee, health drinks, and supplements for animal feed. With a revenue of Rs 7 crore in the most recent fiscal year, the business is a lucrative, self-sustaining, and socially significant endeavor.

In 2021, the farm moved closer to Indore city in order to boost activities and make administration easier. While remaining loyal to its organic origins, the company has transformed under Pallavi’s direction from a dairy farm into a nutrition and health brand.

She is the first Indian woman to do so, and her endeavor has served as an inspiration for the inclusion of dairy farming in India’s MSME sector. Pallavi Vyas has dispelled prejudices and created a business strategy that is both contemporary and distinctly Indian in spirit in a field that has traditionally been controlled by males.
