Crop Safety Tips: This insect is the biggest enemy of the maize crop, it ruins these crops too
Crop Safety Tips: Termites have become more likely to infest maize crops these days. Agricultural experts claim that during the rainy season, the high levels of moisture in the fields cause these insects to become active. The crop may suffer significant losses if treatment is not given in a timely manner. Production is directly impacted by this insect’s harm to the plants’ roots. It is crucial for farmers to exercise caution in such circumstances.

The termite is a tiny bug that feeds on maize roots while hiding under the ground. This bug progressively spreads over the field, destroying the maize plants’ nutritional system. As a result, the plants weaken and begin to dry out, which drastically reduces output. But this bug may also harm other Kharif crops than maize. However, since maize’s roots are deeply buried, this plant is more impacted.
When and how does the illness spread?
According to Dr. Rajiv Singh, an agricultural expert, termites thrive in soil that stays moist throughout the rainy season. Termites have an opportunity to proliferate if there is improper water drainage in the field or if there are old, dried plants lying there. This bug stays concealed in the earth and gradually ruins the crop if the land is not ploughed thoroughly.
How to recognize termite symptoms
A termite infestation may be indicated if the corn plants begin to droop or turn yellow in circles out of the blue. Because their roots are weakened, these plants are readily removed by mild tugging. In addition, be aware that termites are busy in the field if you see little dirt mounds or tunnel-like markings.
Preventive and Control Measures
Two liters of chlorpyrifos medication should be dissolved in 200 liters of water and used with irrigation on one acre of land, according to scientist Dr. Singh. This will solve the termite issue. In addition, irrigation water may be used to apply two liters of Fipronil medication. Adding 20 to 25 kg of Neem Cake per acre to the field might also be helpful if you don’t want to use medications.
