Pigeon Pea Farming: Leave paddy cultivation and start cultivating this pulse crop, you will be full of money in a few days

Pigeon Pea Farming: Cultivation of pigeon pea in May and June can be an attractive endeavor for farmers. In Indian agriculture, pigeon pea cultivation falls in a special category of pulse crops. The government is also encouraging farmers to cultivate pulse crops, as the area under cultivation has been decreasing for some time. In such a situation, this is the ideal time for pigeon pea cultivation, which can give good profits to farmers at minimum cost.

According to Dr. NP Gupta, an agricultural expert posted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Niyamatpur, if farmers install the necessary irrigation and equipment, they can earn up to three times the profit from pigeon pea cultivation. There should be a strong drainage system in the land for pigeon pea cultivation. If the crop gets water on time, the yield will increase.

When should pigeon pea be sown?

Cultivation of pigeon pea is best from the last week of May to the first week of August. Pulses Research Center Kanpur has developed many such varieties that provide more profit to farmers at low cost. It is important that farmers use better seed varieties while cultivating pigeon peas.

How is pigeon pea cultivated?

For pigeon pea cultivation, plow the field well with a disc harrow. After this, plow the field with a rotavator and soften the soil. After the field is ready, make ridges in it and then sow pigeon pea seeds in it. 4 to 5 kg of seeds are required for pigeon pea cultivation on one acre of land. Cultivating pigeon peas by making ridges will improve the drainage of the field. If there is a lot of rain, the water will drain out of the field immediately. As a result, there will be no damage to the crop.

Best varieties of pigeon pea

The Pulses Research Center in Kanpur has developed many improved varieties. Upas 120 will be ready for harvesting in 115 to 120 days. Apart from this, Pulses Research Kanpur has developed two varieties of pigeon pea, Bahar and Ambar, which are ready for harvesting in 150 days.

Adequate moisture is necessary before sowing

If the pigeon pea crop has to give a good yield, then special attention needs to be paid to irrigation. First of all, Dr. NP Gupta said that special attention should be paid to the moisture of the field during the entire sowing season. With adequate moisture, the seeds will germinate faster and strong plants will be prepared from strong plants. This will lead to high-quality yield.
