Why is summer plowing necessary?

Summer plowing is done in May and June, when the heat is at its peak and there is less moisture in the fields. The upper hard layer of the field should now be broken to create healthy, soft soil. According to the agriculture department, plowing now improves the water holding capacity of the soil, which is beneficial for the next Kharif crops such as rice, maize, millet, tur, etc.
