The most popular use of colored capsicum is in salads, and its demand increases significantly during the wedding season. This crop has a favorable market, especially in Delhi, where farmers can sell it at a fair price. 50% discount on purchase of plants
The Horticulture Department, working on behalf of the Haryana government, has set up centers where farmers can buy plants at a 50% discount if they want to grow colored capsicum. The five primary colors of colored capsicum are: orange, green, purple, yellow, and red. However, red and yellow capsicum are most in demand in the market.
How can colorful capsicum be grown?
Both net houses and polyhouses are used to grow colored capsicum. Initially, we use seeds to create plants, then move them to polyhouses in August. One acre can accommodate about 10,000 plants. He advised planting half red and half yellow capsicum plants in one acre of a net house. The crop fetches 20 to 30 rupees more when farmers sell it in pairs.
More income with less expenditure
Though there may be pest problems that can be easily controlled, disease is rarely a problem in growing colored capsicum. One plant can yield 1.5 to 3 kg of capsicum. Compared to green capsicum, colored capsicum is much pricier in the market. While they sell for Rs 250 to Rs 300 per kg in big markets, their usual price in the local market ranges between Rs 100 and Rs 120 per kg.
