Subsidy on Cultivation of Turmeric and Yam: Bihar government is giving subsidy of Rs 1,40,000 to farmers for cultivation of turmeric and yam
Subsidy on Cultivation of Turmeric and Yam: For the farmers of Bihar, there is good news. Along with traditional crops, the state’s farmers may also grow cash crops like yams and turmeric, and the Horticulture Department will also provide subsidies for this. This program was launched with the intention of diversifying agriculture and raising farmer incomes.

The Horticulture Department states that in the fiscal year 2025–2026, a goal has been established to grow yam on 5 acres and turmeric on 15 acres. The agency thinks there is a market for these crops and that farmers may make a big profit if they pay attention to them.
What is the amount of the subsidy?
The Bihar Horticulture Directorate estimates that the overall cost of growing yams is Rs 281,600 per acre. Farmers will get up to Rs 140,000 in subsidies as a result. At the same time, farmers would get a subsidy of Rs 22,500 towards the anticipated Rs 45,000 per acre cost of growing turmeric.
DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) would be used to transfer this award straight to the farmers’ accounts, ensuring a speedy and transparent procedure.
Farmers in Kaimur are leading by example
Now, farming in the rice bowl, or Kaimur area, is taking a different turn. In addition to wheat and paddy, the farmers here are increasingly growing vegetables and coarse grains. Through a number of state government programs, farmers are receiving payments based on the recommended unit cost, which encourages and finances their production.
Possibility for farmers
In addition to encouraging farmers to grow new crops, this program will provide them financial independence based on consumer demand. This effort by the Horticulture Directorate and the Agriculture Department is a praiseworthy step in raising farmers’ standard of living.
