Lotus Flower Cultivation: This farmer of Bharatpur did big business from lotus cultivation
Lotus Flower Cultivation: In his own pond of two to two and a half bighas, farmer Than Singh of Band Baretha village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district is now growing lotuses. The unique aspect is that he ordered specific seeds from the Sagar region in the Karauli district for this cultivation. He began growing lotuses, which are currently thriving and spreading their aroma far, after completely cleaning the pond. This generates a decent revenue as well. Large cities like Delhi and Jaipur are receiving his lotus.

The beginning of a unique farming
About five years ago, Than Singh began this unusual farming. He purchased a specific lotus seed kind from the Sagar region of the Karauli district for this purpose. The pond was meticulously cleaned before the cultivation began, and the water quality received particular attention. Only then were the seeds properly sown. According to farmer Than Singh, the lotus crop requires careful attention. Pruning, water management, and periodic plant monitoring are required in this regard. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, lotus cultivation is seen as a representation of beauty and tranquility.
A decline in demand has an impact on earnings
According to the farmer, lotus flowers are highly sought after for festivals, religion, and decorating. According to him, he used to cultivate it and make between one and two lakh rupees a year in profit. In the cities during the time, it was much sought after. However, there is now a little decline in the demand for this flower. People in the surrounding towns and cities still like purchasing it, however. The profits have been somewhat impacted by this, nevertheless. Despite this, lotus farming generates a respectable revenue.
