Join Terminal Railroad Association: Become an Assistant Signalman and Build Your Career in Rail Safety

Assistant Signalman: Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis is looking for a dedicated and motivated professional to join its fast-paced technical team. The selected candidate will be trained to become a certified Signal Maintainer, responsible for the installation, inspection, and maintenance of railway signal systems, including highway grade crossing protections and train traffic control equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified or experienced in electrical systems.

  • Journeyman’s License (preferred).

  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL – Class A).

  • Previous experience in the railroad industry.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.

  • Mechanical and computer aptitude.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 150 lbs of force.

  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, at heights, and around high-voltage equipment.

  • Willing to work nonstandard hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.

Pay & Training

  • Entry Rate: $37.01/hr

  • Full Rate: $45.18/hr

  • Includes both on-the-job and off-site certification training.

  • Candidates start as Assistant Signalmen and are expected to qualify as Signal Maintainers within two years.

Union & Probation

  • 60-day probation period.

  • Position covered by the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; union membership required.
