Hiring Seasonal Labourers: Cook Shire Council is preparing for the upcoming wet season, and with rapid tropical growth on the way, we are looking for energetic and reliable Seasonal Labourers to help keep Cooktown looking vibrant and well-maintained.

This fixed-term role runs from January 2026 to 30 June 2026 and offers the opportunity to work outdoors in a unique environment while supporting the community.

We are hiring four full-time positions:

  • 2 × Parks and Gardens Labourers

  • 2 × Botanic Gardens Labourers

What You’ll Be Doing

Parks & Gardens Labourer Responsibilities

  • Mowing, snipping, and general grounds maintenance

  • Streetscape and public park upkeep

  • Operating small plant and equipment (trailers, whipper-snippers, etc.)

  • Litter management and cleaning

  • Working safely and efficiently in outdoor conditions

Botanic Gardens Labourer Responsibilities

  • Mowing, weeding, mulching, watering, and general plant care

  • Operating small plant, including zero-turn mowers and power tools

  • Assisting with pruning and garden development

  • Supporting the Curator and garden team

  • Contributing to the upkeep of one of Cooktown’s most iconic natural attractions


About You

  • Reliable with a strong work ethic

  • Comfortable working outdoors in humid tropical weather

  • Able to operate mowing and gardening equipment (experience preferred)

  • Hold a Construction White Card

  • Hold a Qld Driver’s Licence

    • C Class required for Botanic Gardens

    • MR licence preferred for Parks & Gardens

  • Take pride in contributing to your community
