Strategic Commercial Role Within Roads Frameworks

The newly listed position sits within WSP’s Roads Commercial Team and reports directly to the Commercial Director. The successful candidate will take commercial ownership of several major Roads Frameworks, working closely with Framework Leadership Teams to ensure robust governance, contractual compliance, and effective commercial decision-making across projects.

This role is positioned as a key commercial leadership function, with responsibility spanning the full contract lifecycle. From the initial review of work orders to oversight of subcontract agreements, the role plays a central part in ensuring that projects operate efficiently, transparently, and in line with contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities and Scope of Work

According to the job details, the appointed professional will provide strategic commercial guidance to project teams, Quality Managers, and General Managers. This includes overseeing contract reviews, managing governance processes, and supporting the resolution of contract-related issues across multiple regions.

A significant part of the role involves supervising and mentoring members of the commercial team, ensuring consistency in contract management practices and supporting the Framework Commercial Lead. The position also includes responsibility for identifying and resolving non-conformities, supporting internal audits, and driving continuous improvement through performance analysis and lessons learned.

The role requires close collaboration with WSP’s internal legal team, project directors, and operations leaders, particularly when managing disputes, claims, or potential contractual risks.

Experience and Skills WSP Is Seeking

WSP has indicated that candidates with experience in transport and infrastructure sectors, whether from consultancy, client-side, or contractor backgrounds, will be well suited to the role. A relevant degree or professional membership is preferred, alongside proven experience in people management and commercial leadership.

Strong communication skills, the ability to influence stakeholders, and experience working in multidisciplinary environments are considered essential. Practical knowledge of standard contract forms used in the UK and Ireland, including NEC and COE, is also highlighted as a key requirement.
