The College is seeking an experienced Head of Rugby to lead, develop, and manage its rugby program across all age groups, from Years 5 through 12. This role involves fostering a high-performance culture while promoting participation, enjoyment, and alignment with the College’s values. The Head of Rugby will oversee coaching excellence, player and coach development, and competitive outcomes, ensuring a sustainable and values-driven rugby program.
Role Overview
The Head of Rugby will provide strategic leadership for the College’s rugby program, aligning long-term plans with the Jesuit educational philosophy and the AAGPS sporting tradition. This position requires a balance of high-performance sport management with pastoral care and student development. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Leading and managing the rugby program for all age groups (Years 5-12).
Promoting participation, enjoyment, and engagement across all levels of rugby.
Developing and maintaining a high-performance culture, including coaching and player development.
Ensuring the rugby program reflects the College’s Catholic, Jesuit values and educational philosophy.
Overseeing competition preparation, execution, and performance evaluation.
Mentoring and developing coaching staff to ensure high-quality instruction.
Driving continuous improvement in program delivery, performance outcomes, and student experience.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
Rugby Australia Level 2 Coaching Accreditation (minimum), including Smart Rugby and Smart Tackle.
Proven experience coaching and managing rugby programs at school, club, or representative level.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire students, staff, and coaches.
Understanding of youth athlete development, wellbeing, and pastoral care in a school setting.
Ability to lead teams, manage complex programs, and implement strategic plans effectively.
Alignment with the College’s Jesuit, Catholic mission and values.
Excellent organisational, administrative, and communication skills.
Experience in school co-curricular, pastoral, or academic programs is preferred.
Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications
Teaching qualifications or prior experience in a school environment.
Familiarity with GPS or equivalent school rugby systems.
