US & Canada: This position is designed for an experienced professional who can take ownership of SAP HCM Payroll operations for the United States and Canada. The role requires working from the office for a minimum of three days per week to ensure close collaboration with business and technology teams. The primary objective is to implement, support, and continuously improve payroll processes while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence. The individual will act as a trusted subject matter expert, ensuring smooth gross to net payroll processing and providing functional and technical guidance across the organization.

Core Purpose of the Position
The main purpose of this role is to deliver reliable SAP HCM payroll support with a strong focus on US and Canadian payroll landscapes. This includes end-to-end payroll configuration, schema and rule management, taxation handling, financial postings, benefits administration, garnishments, and time-related integrations. The role also involves active participation in change management, release management, security alignment, service operations, and incident resolution. As a payroll expert, the professional will ensure system stability, compliance, and continuous improvement across payroll functions.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
As part of this role, the candidate will serve as a payroll subject matter expert responsible for gross to net payroll execution and support. This includes independently resolving complex payroll issues using SAP configuration tools and industry best practices. The role demands close coordination with vendors, internal support teams, and business stakeholders to ensure service level agreements are consistently met.
The individual will review functional design documents, configuration rationales, and technical documentation to ensure solutions align with business needs. Active engagement with IT leaders and business partners is expected, particularly during new initiatives, enhancements, and system transitions into baseline support. Collaboration with North America payroll and finance teams is critical to resolve operational issues efficiently and accurately.
Payroll Configuration and Technical Expertise
A major component of the role involves deep hands-on experience with payroll and time schemas, including reading, modifying, and creating rules as required. The candidate must possess strong knowledge of US and Canadian taxation frameworks, including compliance-driven updates and regulatory changes. Financial posting expertise is essential, covering areas such as payroll posting models, integration with finance, and reconciliation processes.
The role also requires configuration and support experience across several payroll components such as third-party remittance, benefits administration, garnishments, off-cycle payroll runs, and year-end processing. Creating and modifying wage types, managing union-related rules, and handling time evaluation processes are also part of the responsibility. Exposure to support packs, tax updates, and payroll-related tools ensures system accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Reporting, Compliance, and Control Management
The professional will be accountable for the effectiveness of application controls within the SAP HCM environment. This includes timely testing, documentation, and reporting of payroll controls to support audit and compliance requirements. Experience with US tax reporting and Canadian statutory reporting is essential, ensuring accurate delivery of forms such as W2, T4, RL1, and T4A. Knowledge of retirement and savings plans, including RRSP and DSP plans, further strengthens compliance capabilities.
Technology Landscape and Integration
Beyond core payroll, the role interacts with multiple systems and tools such as time and attendance platforms, service management solutions, and change control frameworks. Experience with solution management tools, change request processing, and incident tracking systems is important for efficient operations. A basic understanding of employee data platforms, time tracking systems, and authorization concepts supports effective collaboration across HR and IT functions.
Professional Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in SAP HCM payroll support and project delivery. This includes extensive exposure to payroll operations, time management, financial integrations, and taxation for both the US and Canada. Strong experience with garnishments, benefits processing, and time-related data management is essential. The role demands both functional depth and technical confidence, enabling the individual to operate independently while supporting complex payroll environments.
