Positions Available Across Multiple Commissary Locations

According to the official announcement, selected candidates will assist experienced meatcutters in preparing and packaging retail meat products such as beef, pork, veal, and lamb. The role includes handling simpler meat processing tasks, wrapping and labeling products, maintaining display counters, and ensuring sanitation standards inside the work area.

The agency stated that employees may also be required to use meat-cutting equipment, maintain tools, and rotate stock to ensure product freshness. Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and overtime based on operational requirements.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

The recruitment is open to U.S. citizens and nationals, along with certain categories such as military spouses and eligible federal employees. Applicants must meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods during shifts.

DeCA has clarified that educational qualifications alone will not be considered for eligibility. Instead, applicants must demonstrate practical experience related to retail meat handling, meat wrapping, trimming, or operating meat-processing equipment.

Candidates are also required to submit a resume that clearly outlines work history, job responsibilities, and weekly work hours. The agency has placed a strict limit of two pages for resumes submitted through the application portal.

Hiring Process and Important Dates

The vacancy notice will remain active until June 30, 2026, although the first round of applicant reviews will begin 30 days after the announcement opening date. Officials noted that applications submitted after the initial review period may still be considered if additional vacancies become available.

The hiring process will be conducted through the U.S. Department of Defense Direct Hire Authority system. Applicants who meet the minimum qualification standards may be referred directly to hiring officials without the traditional competitive ranking process.

Background verification, identity checks, and employment eligibility confirmation through E-Verify will be mandatory before final appointment. Selected candidates may also be asked to complete fingerprint verification and additional onboarding formalities.

Work Environment and Employment Conditions

The agency explained that employees could work in refrigerated rooms, loading dock areas, and environments with fluctuating temperatures. The position may involve exposure to sharp equipment and minor workplace hazards typically associated with meat processing operations.

DeCA also reminded applicants that federal workplaces follow strict drug-free employment policies. Marijuana remains prohibited for federal employees regardless of state-level legalization laws.
